Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City is making New Year’s Eve celebrations simple for the whole family by hosting a children’s party earlier in the day and an adult party later in the evening. Two children’s parties will be held, one from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the other from 4-6 p.m. Although admission to both events is free, children can indulge in an unlimited supply of cake pops, cotton candy, and popcorn for $5. A balloon drop film will be shown on the large screens at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., along with a kid-friendly music selection, dance area, and other activities. But the Big Grove’s 21+ New Year’s Eve party kicks out at 9 p.m. with a live DJ and a dance floor. Big Grove will use fireworks to ring in the New Year at midnight.

Elray’s Live and Dive is holding a New Year’s Eve party with two DJs and two live performances if you want to celebrate with live music without committing to one performer. Part-Time Vegan, a band from Iowa City, will perform in the front room of the music venue at 8 p.m., followed by musician Zach Westcott at 10 p.m. New Jersey-born country music performer and songwriter Westcott. The price of general entry is $10 at the door, although it may go up throughout the evening depending on space.
